Living in the world. Living as Christians.

How does one live, fully, in the world as a Christian?

We are a pilgrim people. We are constantly searching for perfection, for goodness and love. We are constantly striving to build those things within us.

We are constantly moving toward our ultimate home. Our home in Him. The one true God. He who waits for us at the end of all our journey's.

I’ve always thought that a road trip should make plenty of stops. Eat here. Take a photo there. When in Rome do as the Romans do.

...but, historically, Rome isn’t the best place to emulate.

...and the food we tend to eat, while on the road, isn’t always that good for us.

...and which memories, from along the way, should we really try to keep?

We find ourselves in places. Sometimes we’re in those places because of the one’s we’ve been in before.  We don’t get anywhere from standing still.

We must keep moving. As we do we must consider where we are and where it is we’ve been.

Being a Christian, in the world, is
more than not doing something, or doing something differently, or doing a different thing. It’s facing daily challenges, but also our past and our future. It’s being mindful, while being fruitful, in that place we happen to be.

Being a Christian, living wholly in the world, takes a kind of vision. It takes a way of seeing that develops into a form of artistry. It’s defining what is as canvas. It’s understanding what
was as are our tools and what is as is our opportunity. It’s distinguishing that raw materials, some used, some abused, some dangerous, all have the potential for being a masterpiece.

It's finding our potential in this world, while living up to our potential in Christ.

Becoming Christians, living as Christ intended, in the world is our life's work. It’s living for He who gave His life for us.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
