You are beautiful

In the things we choose to surround us.   In things that are outside of us; we often seek the beautiful.  We value it. We cherish it. We try to emulate it.  In beauty we see all things good.

Imperfection is a loss of opportunity. “It” could have been better. We see imperfection as a mistake. She/He should have done this or that instead. We see imperfection as a failure. It is wrong. It has no value. Let’s throw it out.

We see the imperfections in ourselves the same way.

...but God made us in his image. (Genesis 1:27) “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

...
and like the psalmist we can say (Psalm 139: 18 ) “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

We struggle to find the good in what we call our imperfections. We can cherish our objects far more than ourselves. We can cherish our cell phones more than ourselves! When we do, so often then, our data is limited. Our (church) service may not reach us, and we forget the number of whom it is that we should call.

We so often forget to put God’s name into our contacts.

Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

As so many have said: God doesn’t make junk.

Jeremiah speaks of the potter. (Jeremiah 18-4) A potter whose clay had been marred. The potter re worked that clay and made it into something pleasing.

The potter does not let go. As long as the clay is in the potters hands, it will come to good.

We think of our feet as clay, but we forget that it’s the path that’s malleable.

We forget, too, that the clay never loses its value. Not to the potter. Not to the person who finds use from what is formed from it.

We may be a mug rather than a jug. We may be earthen ware, stone ware, or porcelain. Whatever we are, we are useful. Whatever we are is perfect in our purpose.

We are beautiful for what we are. We are beautiful through God, the potter, who made us.
